We are committed to reducing the amount of waste that is sent to landfill and have recently completed a project to review all aspects of our waste management. We are also in the process of implementing our Green Travel Plan. The ICR also has a sustainable purchasing policy.
In November 2011 we successfully achieved the Ecocampus Gold and Platinum awards and now have a robust environmental management system in place. The ICR is one of the very first higher education institutions to achieve this award, equivalent to the ISO 14001 standard. We have also successfully completed our Carbon Management Plan in conjunction with the Carbon Trust. Subsequently the ICR achieved certification to ISO 14001 in November 2013.
Through our participation in the Ecocampus Project and membership of EAUC and the London Universities Environment Group (LUEG) we are able to co-ordinate our environmental management in collaboration with other universities.
The Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) team advise on health, safety, environmental and sustainability issues within the institute. The HSEQ committee structure includes both staff and union representation.
